Approaches to Learning

WE ARE LEARNERS BECOMING GLOBAL, ANALYTICAL & REFLECTIVE HUMANITARIANS!

Sutherland Elementary School is an IB World School!

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs encourage students to think independently and drive their learning.  The aims of the programs are to develop active learners, internationally minded individuals, and creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

IB Programs:
  • Primary Years Program (PYP)- is for students 3-12 years of age.
  • Middle Years Program (MYP)- is for students 11-16 years of age.
  • Diploma Program (DP)-is for students 16-19 years of age.
  • Career Related Program (CP)-designed for students 16-19 years of age.

Sutherland Elementary School's 6th-8th grade students have the unique opportunity to participate in the IB Middle Years Program.

Through their development of the attributes of the learner profile our students become more culturally aware and able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.  Scholars learn by doing through inquiry activities and application of understanding to real world situations.
